We’ve been loud and proud sigil spell creators (Digital Altars, anyone?) for many years at Holisticism HQ.

A sigil is, most simply, a visual spell.

Here’s how it works: While creating a sigil (this can be as lo-fi as symbol you draw, or as detailed as a piece of pottery or collage), you hold an intention for a desired outcome. This directed attention “charges” the visual spell, and the magic begins to do its work. Every time you catch sight of the sigil, the magic is reinforced.

Depending on your practice, you might prefer to use sigils and visual spells as a way to communicate with your unconscious mind. The abstraction of your intention allows the conscious mind to take a backseat, which ultimately means we can let something more intuitive takeover.

STEVIE’S INSPIRATION

This year I was homebound way more than I’d prefer due to life responsibilities. My soulmate pet cat Rosie was ill all summer and then sadly crossed over this fall. I spent most of the year caretaking for my little familiar, which was my greatest honor. I dedicate this spell to her, behind every great witch is a great cat. <3 When you break down the background of the word “vacation” Merriam-Webster said, “from Latin: vacātiōn-, vacātiō means "exemption from service, respite from work," and traces back to vacāre, "to be empty, be free, have leisure." EXEMPT FROM SERVICE. EMPTY. FREE. Doesn't that sound nice? Being able to channel the energy of this spell was extremely helpful for me during a difficult time. Life ebbs and flows, sometimes we can wander endlessly, while other times we have to stay put…physically that is. This is a spell for when you need a vacation inside your mind. A piece of paradise you can access whenever you want. Just relax, all you have to do is be. Exempt from service. Empty. Free.
