All of this! I pretty much stopped buying things online at the beginning of this year, aside from artists and small businesses. I was just so sick of it. I don’t miss shopping online at all. Shopping in person and interacting with the community has felt great. And if I can’t find what I’m looking for, did I even need it?
This reminds me of something I read that Kurt Vonnegut used to do every day- he would go out into the world to do some mundane or essential chore because he realised the creative value in random encounters.
Literally all of this. I could not do what I do if I wasn't digging through old books myself, wandering around a museum because I liked the font on their sign, or chatting to actual people. Inspiration strikes, it can't be scheduled any more than lightning can, but at least you can put yourself in its path.
I am fully on board for buying things in person if for no other reason than I need some way of creating a filter for all the options that are out there (despite which- I can never find what I'm looking for!)
yes yes YES!! I visited a new metaphysical shop in my town and talked to the old man who runs the place for an HOUR and left with a handpicked rune he gifted me with that I now wear daily. it was completely inefficient and the smoothie in my car definitely melted but it was GLORIOUS

Thank you - I made the pants! #clowncore

I thought I was free from the church of optimisation but I think I need to push myself a bit more. Heresy here I come.
